Spring is here! It's my favourite season, where nothing compares to seeing the flowers in bloom and hearing lilting birdsong. Taking a walk around the park, I paused to admire the stunning florals of a magnolia tree. The buds open like crowns reflecting the sunshine. Soft pinks meld into dusty hues and then tip into whites. I thought back to Autumn when I was inspired by flourishing trees and painted a perpetual reminder of Spring upon the wall.
Back in the atelier, the pretty blend of pink and cream petals come to form a threadess on the canvas. The blooms layer and reach throughout the canvas. The little green buds which hold the large petals remind me of different beads woven together ;Last year I planted a magnolia sapling in my garden, The delicate branch formed small knots which soon burst into little leaves. 'Noli' tree would stand elegant in the plant pot.
With a little water and love, the leaves grew larger everyday. They, however, were also popular with critters in garden and the plant didn't thrive. Tending to the plants this Spring, I was thrilled to see new buds forming, where I'm hoping the quick re-pot will allow the tree to flourish!
The sunshine burst through the atelier for a fleeting moment, casting a warm glow in the room. I created the soft pink dress with a delicate silk fabric, where the asymmetric hem has a gently sway with movement. Inspired to create petal-dressed threadesses...
There's a renewed sense of everything with this season. Pretty petals unfurl upon ever-reaching branches. In the years to come, I'm hoping 'Noli' tree in my garden will come to blossom, as big and beautiful as the Magnolia trees I saw on my Springtime stroll.
